Nicholas Black

I am a musician and an educator, with more than 7 years of experience teaching. I teach both violin and viola privately. I love working with all ages, and I work hard to help each student discover the love of learning. I also focus on writing music for many projects, including independent games and personal projects.

Teacher — The Newton School 2022 – Present

• Taught a Kindergarten class for children with ADHD and emotional needs
• Developed a music curriculum for grades K through 4th

Co-Founder — K Clef Education 2021 – Present

• Organized over 120 video lessons using Podia as part of our 12-week course
• Filmed and edited all material used for the course

• Helped students achieve a score of 80 or higher in the RCM (Royal Conservatory of Music) Certificate Program
• Taught students that had learning disabilities
• Lead a studio of 20+ students in individual violin and viola lessons
• Increased enrollment by redesigning the website

Lead Teacher — United Christian Parish Preschool 2019 – 2022

• Led the transition to online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic for the entire school, used ClassDojo for classroom management
• Trained staff on how to use ClassDojo, Zoom, and Kangarootime
• Developed an outdoor classroom program 

Director of Programming and Webmaster — ArtSpace Herndon 2016 – 2019

• Doubled attendance by booking programs at the gallery
• Developed a children’s literary festival
• Created and ran art projects for the children’s art area during the Herndon Festival
• Increased accessibility by redesigning the website
