Travel Advisor Apprentice - Hays Travel - Shrewsbury Pride Hill
(2021-07 - 2023-12)
I began an apprenticeship at Hays Travel, Shrewsbury Pride Hill branch, in July 2021. With a strong passion for travel, this role allowed me to develop key skills and gain valuable experience within the travel industry. My daily responsibilities included booking holidays, liaising with customers both face-to-face and over the telephone, and completing all necessary administrative tasks to support each booking.
I was also responsible for managing the branch's social media platforms, promoting offers and campaigns while responding to customer enquiries in a timely and engaging manner. During my time in this role, I booked a wide range of holidays, including short-haul and long-haul destinations, cruises, multi-centre trips, UK breaks, and rail travel itineraries. Delivering high-quality customer service was essential, and my loyal base of returning customers reflected my commitment to providing a professional, friendly, and trustworthy service.
I take pride in offering strong aftercare, confidently answering questions, resolving queries, and ensuring customers feel fully supported throughout their journey. I also handled holiday amendments, such as adding transfers, additional passen
Kitchen Staff / Waitress / Bar Staff - The Dolphin Inn - Llanymynech
(2017-01 - 2021-12)
I worked in this local pub and restaurant for four years. I originally began in the kitchen preparing starters and prepping meals and the plates ready for service. When I started to serve, my boss recognised I had good communications skills as I was moved up to head waitress and later to work behind the bar.
I was responsible for cash handling, cleanliness of the bar area and equipment including customers tables. This was particularly important during covid where it was essential that all policies and procedures were followed to ensure safe practice at all times. Post covid I returned back to the pub and enjoyed serving customers behind the bar.
I believe I have quality skills in bar management where I was able to politely serve customers and also ensure the equipment and utensils are kept washed, clean and organised at all times. I have been responsible for cash handling and have been able to build my customer service skills further still. I feel I also built some knowledge of health and safety in the workplace including learning about food intolerances that people may present with.
This role was a part time position as I was studying at Reaseheath College at the time.
Volunteer - Equine Yard Assistant - Penycoed Riding Centre - Pant, Oswestry
(2018-01 - 2019-12)
Between 2018 and 2019, during the six-week school holidays, I volunteered at my local riding stables, as horse riding has always been a hobby of mine. This experience allowed me to develop practical skills, gain confidence, and build a strong sense of responsibility at a young age. My duties included a wide range of basic stable tasks such as mucking out the stables, grooming the horses, and preparing them for lessons.
I was responsible for tacking up, ensuring all equipment was fitted correctly, and following all necessary safety measures. At the end of each day, I helped turn the horses out and assisted with feeding routines, which involved filling hay nets and making sure each horse had access to fresh, clean water. Maintaining the cleanliness of the yard and caring for the equipment were also key parts of my daily routine.
In addition to the practical stable work, I supported young riders and those attending residential trips through PGL, many of whom had English as an additional language. This role helped me develop patience, clear communication skills, and the ability to offer guidance in a supportive and approachable manner. Although this was an unpaid voluntary role, the sk
Work Experience / Part-time Animal Care Assistant - Park Hall Farm - Oswestry
(2019-01 - 2020-12)
In Year 10, I completed a one-week work experience placement at Park Hall Countryside Experience in Oswestry. During this time, I gained valuable hands-on experience in a variety of animal management duties, including the safe handling and feeding of farm animals. I also supported young children, helping them interact with the animals safely and confidently, which strengthened my communication skills and my ability to offer clear guidance.
I received a positive reference at the end of my placement and was later offered a part-time position during the holiday periods. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, the farm was unable to remain open, and the role only continued for a short period. Despite this, the experience was extremely valuable and helped reinforce my interest in working with animals while also teaching me responsibility, teamwork, and adaptability.
